Having lived in 4 months in Madrid and having been drinking coffee in most of the hippest cafés around there, I managed to round up my top 10.
These were qualified by overall concept (preferably hispter, this meaning: thought out design, fitting background music, artistic environment, with personality), quality of the coffee and customer service, existence of wifi and existence of latte art, of course.
Tendo vivido 4 meses em Madrid e tendo bebido muitos cafés em sítios únicos por lá, quis, então, fazer uma lista dos 10 cafés que mais gostei.
Os critérios para qualificação destes cafés foram os seguintes: o seu conceito geral (preferivelmente hipster, querendo dizer: com uma decoração pensada, música de fundo que encaixasse no conceito do café, ambiente artístico, com personalidade), qualidade do café e do serviço ao cliente, existência de wifi e existência de latte art, claro.
#10 THOUSANDS CUPS CAFE
Starting from the bottom, I nominate 1000s cups café to be in this position, most of all for the poorest service that I experienced. The place itself has a nice decor reminiscing an old library with vintage typing machines, but the fuss and the non-friendly faces of the employees made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The coffee, although with latte art, wasn't the best quality I've tasted, actually it tasted funny.
Começando pelo fim, eu nomeio o 1000s cups café para ficar nesta posição, especialmente pelo mau serviço que nos foi prestado. O sítio em si tem uma decoração engraçada que nos remete para uma velha biblioteca com máquinas de escrever antigas, mas a confusão que se gerava atrás do balcão e as caras de pau com que fomos recebidos fez-nos sentir desconfortáveis e indesejados. O café, apesar de ter latte art, não era da melhor qualidade, aliás, sabia mal.

#9 THE LITTLE BIG CAFE
This café was also a surprise. I followed Cup of Couples's lead and ended up at a small and homy café. It was nice, though the coffee and latte art were nothing special, hence the position at number 9.
Este café também foi uma surpresa. Segui o conselho dos bloggers do Cup of Couple e acabei num cafézinho de carácter familiar. Era giro, mas o café e o latte art não eram nada de especial, daí esta posição no número 9.

#8 CAFE DEL REY
This was our street's café. In the first two weeks, this was where we connected to the world, since our wifi wasn't installed in our rental apartment. The coffee, ILLY (Italian) was really good , but their latte art skills were not on point... The decoration was really appealing, very modern with wine cases displayed on the wall. The service was always impeccable, young guys with a smile on their faces serving you is always a fresh start to your day.
Este era o nosso café da rua. Nas primeiras duas semanas, era aqui que nos conectávamos ao mundo, já que a internet ainda não estava ligada no nosso apartemente arrendado. O café, ILLY (italiano) era óptimo, mas, infelizmente, as habilidades para fazerem o latte art não estavam ainda afinadas. A decoração era muito interessante, com caixas de vinho espalhadas pela parede. E os serviço era sempre impecável, rapazes novos de sorriso na cara a servirem-nos dava logo uma boa disposição para esse dia.

#7 MAMÁ FRAMBOISE
Mamá Framboise was the first girly cafe/restaurant I went. I loved the french pâtisserie they offered, although it looked kinda fake due to its perfection, but it tasted marvelously. Coffee wasn't their big thing, but this huge jar of raspberry iced-tea had me sold! And the whole concept of this space was very welcoming and comfortable. You could feel like a very chic person in there.
Mamá Framboise foi o primeiro café/restaurante com um toque feminino a que fui. Adorei a pastelaria francesa que ofereciam, apesar de parecer falsa devido à sua perfeição, mas tinha um sabor maravilhoso. O café não era o seu ponto forte, mas este jarro gigante de chá gelado de framboesa convenceu-me! E o conceito do espaço era muito acolhedor e comfortável. Sentia-me super chique neste café.

#5 FEDERAL CAFE
Federal makes into my list for its famous Sunday brunches. The whole vibe of this brunch café is very young and modern. Go early on a Sunday (or wait 1 hour to get in...) and order a toast with scrambled or poached eggs, smoked salmon, avocado and spinach with a green smoothie and cafe con leche. A real treat!
O café Federal conseguiu um lugar na minha lista pelos seus famosos brunches de Domingo. O ambiente deste sítio é todo muito jovem e moderno. Vai cedo num Domingo (senão vais esperar uma hora à seca...) e pede uma tosta com ovos mexidos ou escalfado, salmão fumado, abacate e espinafres com um sumo verde e cafe con leche. Um verdadeiro mimo!

#5 HANSO
Loved HanSo. Firstly, because it's situated in a alternative street (Calle de Pez), with tons of cafes/bares/restaurants all with different vibes. And secondly, because it took us out of Madrid and into somewhere else where we could feel at peace, drinking our cappuccino or matcha latte (really regret not trying that there) in a minimalist space.
Adorei o HanSo. Primeiro, porque estava situado numa zona alternativa (Calle de Pez), com montes de cafés/bares/restaurantes todos com vibrações diferentes. E segundo, por nos levar para fora de Madrid e para dentro de um sítio onde nos sentíamos em paz, bebendo o nosso cappuccino ou matcha latte (arrependo-me imenso por não o ter provado lá) num espaço minimalista.

#4 MONKEE KOFFEE
Well, this was one of the cafés I spend the most time chatting. The casual and cozy environment made time fly by so fast. The live music and the delicious cappuccino made it all very amusing in that rainy afternoon.
Bem, este foi o café em que passei mais tempo a bater o papo. Neste ambiente super descontraído e comfortável, o tempo voou sem dar conta. A música ao vivo e o cappuccino delicioso tornou essa tarde chuvosa num momento muito agradável.

Yes, I have been to all three locations, various times, eating several different items on that list. And no, I don't regret it. Love the cool vibe, the hipsters looking baristas and the way they mix the gelato. Top 3!

#2 COFFEE AND KICKS
Here I found the true cult. The magnificent and perfected art of the latte . The true spirit of delighting oneself with a cup of cappuccino over real and virtual talks. Here, I found my 1st runner up of my favorite coffee shops in Madrid.
Few are able to beat Coffee and Kicks and their multiple ways of making coffee, being hot or cold, and to defy their unique concept of sneakers and caffeine.
THIS is unmissable.
Aqui encontrei o verdadeiro culto. A magnífica e aperfeiçoada arte do latte. O verdadeiro espírito de deliciar-se com uma chávena de cappuccino sobre conversas reais ou virtuais. Aqui, encontrei o segundo vencedor da minha lista de melhores cafés de Madrid.
Poucos são capazes de superar as múltiplas maneiras de preparar um café (quente ou gelado) do Coffee and Kicks e de desafiar o seu conceito único de ténis e cafeína.
ESTE é imperdível.

#1 TOMA CAFE
And finally, the last, but certainly not least, best coffee shop EVER. It had to be on the last day in Madrid that I had to find this little gem. Hidden in the old streets of this fast-moving capital, there it was, the little and, undeniably, the most characteristic café.
Here latte art was prepared in seconds, like breathing air. The brunch toast were a delicate burst in my mouth, and the songs playing reminded us of past events that cannot be mentioned here. The whole atmosphere was lively, young and so out of the ordinary.
This here was the one I was looking for all along, the true hipster café.
E finalmente, o último, e certamente não menos importante, o melhor café de SEMPRE. Tinha de ser no último dia em Madrid que tinha de encontrar esta pequena preciosidade. Escondido por entre as ruas velhas desta capital sempre em movimento, ali estava, o pequeno e, inegavelmente, café mais característico.
Aqui a latte art era preparada em segundos, como um respirar de ar. As tostas de brunch eram uma agradável explosão na boca, e as músicas que tocavam remetiam para momentos do passado que aqui não podem ser mencionados. O ambiente em geral era todo muito vivo, novo e fora do normal.
Este era o que estava à procura o tempo todo, o verdadeiro café hispter.
