Be Bold

A arquitectura desta estrutura é incrível.

[EN]: I'm back! And here to stay (well, at least that's my purpose). Finally, I got a weekend off and got to shoot at this amazing location – EDP's building, in Alcântara. The architecture of this structure is so beautiful. The reflection of the mirrors and the high stripped ceiling makes it so instagrammable and photoshoot worthy.

For this look I wanted to showcase my bold side. A zipper lined leather pants with a satin lingerie top with velvet details over a white shirt. I loved this combo, and it's all that my blog is about: being irreverent (style wise). Not staying inside the lines, being daring and feeling confident about your move: that's the motto.

NYX fall lips & shopping experience review

NYX.

What does it stands for? Anyways, I got three products – honestly, just to feed the hype. It was back in December, last year, when I was in Madrid, and went to the opening of the store in Calle Fuencarral. And got my first makeup session by a professional makeup artist – t'was so exciting.

In Portugal, the store was recently opened on the other side of the river (there's a bridge connecting Lisbon to Almada). Usually, when a store is brand new, it is opened downtown – in Chiado. But I guess L'Óreal thought it was a better business deal to open it at Almada's shopping centre.

True makeup addicts will follow their brands everything they can, so, one scheduled weekend, my makeup buddy and I crossed over that San Francisco looking bridge and landed in a different reality – JK!

Now, as former shop assistant, I have to review my shopping experience – spoiler alert: IT. WAS. BAD. So bad it made me not want to go there anymore.

WARNING: a rant is about to go down. If you wish to skip it, scroll to the next image.

What I think is standard whenever a new shop opens, or even if it is a century old, is that you're greeted when you arrive, presented to the brand, showed around the products and assisted by the assistants.

So what happened? The exact opposite.

As we entered, it was me who had to greet – and no one seemed to care. Then, I walked around the store trying to find the exact products I needed – with trouble as some testers weren't even in the same place as their products –, I had no one free to help me. There were, at least, three people organizing lipsticks, while I – a new client and possible buyer – was completely ignored. Not to mention the unpresentable state of their testers – and yet, I did it.

It was a plain poor service.

Anyhow, those 12 kilometers weren't driven in vain, and I did wanted to buy some things – of course, if they had been more considerate, I would have bought more – their loss.

Now onto the beauty review:

For lips, I was craving a metallic lipstick. One other brand I heard of in Nikkie Tutorial's video – Milani – wasn't that expensive, but not being able to try before ordering online made me itch. So, at NYX they have these Lingerie liquid eyeshadows that serve perfectly fine for them lips too. They're cool when applying and dry instantly – without the dehydration feeling. I feel like their pigment is way stronger, than their soft matte lip cream. I have this one, and it needs loads of layering to even the color out – the finish gets pasty instead of matte...

It doesn't last all day, through meals and drinks, but a quick reapply solves it. I love the applicator's tip: as it is really fine, makes the outlining very precise, especially at the cupid's bow.

When applied, it looks like I dusted some highlighter on, and I love that – as I loved the formula, I think I'll buy a couple more from this range, but, this time, online!

The matte lipstick is really nothing special, it is smooth alright, but it's not long lasting. It was this vampy color that seduced me.

| I tried some on as eyeshadow and it definitely lost intensity.

The jumbo pencil was quite a disappointment. I thought it would make a good eyeshadow primer, but  it can't hold itself throughout the day – it's true that i had oily lids, but still...

My (cheap) brow specialist

Eu sempre tive as sobrancelhas grossas.

[EN]: I've always had thick eyebrows. And I remember my mom saying to never over pluck them, otherwise I would end up with ridiculous thin brows that would never grow back to their former shape.
I never really cared for them. Only when Cara Delevingne was so complimented on her bushy brows, I realized I owned a fashionable physical feature.

When eyebrow products came along, I would always ignore them thinking "if I have such thick brows, why would I like to thicken them even more? I'd look like a man..."

I started trying those brow gels to keep the hair in place, but I hated the wet feeling. So I dished that. And all the brow pencils I had tried would either be too clear for me or too expensive (or both). So I let it all go.

Until, one casual day, when I was walking through an H&M at the Galleries Lafayette in Paris and gave a go on their very cheap brow pencil. I was sold on the spot: it was only €4 and it made my eyes look really defined and deep – oh, what have I been missing all my life!
