Hello, Kristof

[EN]: This post is, at least, 4 months delayed. Nonetheless, it is written at the perfect time. If you haven't noticed yet, I moved to Copenhagen (more on that later, meanwhile you can follow my day on Instagram @inesserodio95) and by talking about this Scandinavian inspired coffee shop, it combines my new reality with my hometown.

In fact,  the first time in went to Hello, Kristof I had the intention of writing a post about it, but since I was working at an online magazine then, I wrote the article first and then got stuck with those words. Now, with a clear mind, and with MOI's language, I here present you this place in São Bento.

With a clear nordic inspiration and a differentiation derived from the owner's passion (who's actually Portuguese) – magazines –, this new venue has found the perfect recipe for its success. The coffee shop, right in the city center, but in its now hipster side, has  been welcoming tourists and locals to delight themselves with specialty coffee with different kinds of milk, gluten-free cakes (or the classic avocado toasts) and to read unique magazines.

What used to be tobacco shop  has been transformed into something cozy, computer friendly, um an original concept and with a thoughtful service.

The coffee here isn't the same that the Portuguese are used to having. The robusta beans make the coffee bitter and , since it's heavily toasted, tasting like it's burnt. In Hello, Kristof it is used another type of coffee beans – Arábica. This is a quality coffee that has a much smoother taste e is, indeed, very consumed by the nordics.

Welcome to the Glow Getters

[EN]: The highlighter was, without a doubt, the makeup item of 2016. Every time I would open Youtube and watch a makeup video, it could not be missing the blinding shine perfectly placed over the blush and the contour, on the tip of the nose and cupid's bow (and sometimes over the ear, as Bretman Rock would do, or in the collar bone and even on the shoulder – if light should hit that spot, you'd just highlighted it).

Every week, the queen of highlighter, the true Glow Getter, NikkieTutorials, would show up presenting a new highlighter brand, each more pigmented and shinier than the other. That movement quickly spread to other makeup gurus, like Jeffree Star (who started his own cosmetic line including several highlighter shades, from white as ice to blue as the sky), Jaclyn Hill (who launched her own highlighter with makeup brand Becca), Laura Lee, Patrick Starr and Manny Mua – and yes, these are some of my favorite makeup youtubers, do you know any of these?

2016 was also the year I realized that makeup was, indeed, fun and something that makes us feel better about yourselves. And by being so brainwashed by some hundreds of videos of international and national youtubers, I had made up my mind that I needed one highlighter for myself – and to blind my haters (like I have a ton... nah!).

It was also Lena Coelho, a Portuguese blogger and youtuber, who first introduced me to Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter from the american brand The Balm. It's a brand totally talc-free, paraben-free and cruelty-free. It has clever and cute packaging, much like Benefit, and their price range lays between affordable and premium.

The Balm offers three types of highlighters: Betty-Lou Manizer, a bronzy glow, Cindy-Lou Manizer, a blushy glow, and Mary-Lou Manizer, a golden glow. This last one was the one I brought home with me.

The color is beautiful and goes great with lighter and darker skin tones, it's quite pigmented – with a single finger swipe, it gives a healthy shimmer to the face – e comes in a considerable size (8,5g) for the prices it cost and the time it can last. It was for 22€ that  I found it in Kitchen Makeup Boutique, in Lisbon – a shop to visit if you like this brand and Zoeva, the service is impeccable and really personalized, since the space is quite small.

A personal look back on 2016

[EN]: With 2016 coming to an end, we are flooded with nostalgia. Nostalgia of what has passed. What has passed so quickly. So quickly that we don't even remember where and how we were, nor what we were doing back in the beginning of the year. A year that we thought it would be so memorable, a fresh start, a stage of opportunities.

And, in fact, it was all that and more. 2016 was, for many, the suckiest year. With so many deaths of their idols from the years I wasn't even born yet, plus scary and regressive to the humankind, it's quite normal to want to forget this 2016.

However, and personally, this year, 2016, was a year of achievements, changes, uncertainties, sadness and joy. I turned 21 and had only three friends at my dinner party (out of 10 invitees), I visited Oporto for the first time, I've won first place at a US Embassy Challenge, I had a week full on all-nighters to finish our final project, I graduated from university with an average of 15/20, I spent two weekends away in Paris and took it as an usual thing to do, saw Maroon 5 for the second time, I lost control over my car on a rainy night, finally spent some days of the Alentejo coast, found the best ramen in town (and the worst), got a partnership with a Portuguese fitness brand (and made a workout video wearing their outfit), saw my first and last Avicii's concert, had my car towed and paid 200€, had an anguished summer after being graduated, drove a jet ski for the first time, got my first non-paid internship on an online magazine, was a reporter in Lisbon Fashion Week and on Elite Model Look's finale, got invited by the University of Maia to speak about my blog, found out who were my real friends, wrote about over 15 coffee shops in Lisbon, started making videos for Youtube,  photographed 26 looks for the blog and had the opportunity to meet five amazing photographers.

This was my second year with MOI. It was a strong year in terms of content, creativity  motivation and partnerships. It was in 2016 that I insisted on a more organized routine, on photographs with better quality and with better image treatment, on more irreverent looks and speciality coffee shops. I had the blog's concept and my digital personality better defined.

In this year, this hobby of mine granted me with so many moments and experiences that will be forever kept in the form of a photograph and/or a video. I got to meet people with great talent, singular techniques and emotional stories that made possible this creation and consequent conservation of the image of a young and beautified Inês. I've learnt. I've learnt a lot. I've learnt to adapt myself to each photographer and his/hers method, to create a concept around a photoshoot, to be original and to inspire myself with the end results to then write a meaningful text worthy of each production.

They say images speak louder than words. And I've written loads of them telling moments never told before in this platform. Nevertheless, the ones that were shared with you were captured in photographs that carry different emotions and states of mind. And that power of conveying an emotion to the reader is, maybe, stronger than a sappy text.

To conclude, I want to wish all my readers, followers, avid "fans" and casual connoisseurs  a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Embrace this opportunity to dream bigger, achieve more, be fearless and to, most of all, enjoy yourself, because we only get one life –  sorry for the clichés, but it's true!

Below, you can check my favorite photoshoots from this year. Which one was your favorite?

A Midnight Walk By the Christmas Lights

[EN]: In a time where our smartphone is more important than the oxygen we breathe, we aren't even aware of the quantity of possibilities that lay at the tip of our fingers – literally. We can be seen as addicts of a technology that 20 years ago wasn't even tangible, however, if we use it for good, the results of this use can be totally worth the 8 hours "lost" per day.

My generation (the millenniums or the generation Y) has seen a new way of reaching people that before seemed untouchable: thru social media. With this proximity, there are no bureaucratic barriers. A simple "hello" in a private message thru Instagram can lead to amazing partnerships, exchange of ideas and even social comfort, meaning being more proactive and comfortable when approaching people. However, there has to be a careful discernment when choosing the person you want to talk to. The internet can be quite strange and dangerous and you know where that can lead...

It was this way that I got to meet amazing people that share my same interests. Recently, I filmed a video with Mariana Galhardas, blogger of Pink is Fashion. We had talked various times thru our blogs and Instagram, till the day we meet in person – and that felt so normal, like we had known each other before. The same happened with the incredible Márcia Soares, the one who took THESE beautiful photos with her sunset technique.

And, even more recently, thru the lisboa.come Instagram account I met Carlos Pfumo. I had liked a picture from a café in this account for Portuguese restaurants and coffee shops, so then I went further into his account to only find out that he was an amazing photographer.

A few exchanged DMs later, we scheduled a casual photo session by the christmas lights  in the city center and this was the result.

The Mill

From an Australian social media manager for PlayStation, emerges a coffee shop/bar in  São Bento. A coffee shop that opens at 8AM and serves delicious breakfasts with perfectly drawn cappuccinos and, from 5PM, opens up the bar serving cheese plates and one (or two) glasses of wine – with the wisdom of a Brazilian sommelier that has worked with wines for over 11 years. Honestly, the best of both worlds!

Such an innovative concept that, without me even knowing, I had already wished for in my dreams. Arabica coffee beans from South America with a velvety body and a smooth taste (instead of our Portuguese robusta coffee beans that always taste too roasted) combined  with the emulsion of the milk resulting in a intertwining of textures – the cappuccino art.
Included in this concept, it is served and promoted, by the Aussie manager, many Portuguese wines.

Along with the Portuguese wines, there are more items that highlight my country hidden in the clean design, such as the rough cork on the counter and walls, ceramics with patterns   allusive to our ocean and a marble on the table.

To follow it, there's an infinity of homemade baked sweets and savory, from the very well known carrot cake to the red velvet one, to the green watercress cake, croissants, bagels and even the no-dairy apple cake and other gluten-free – so, there's plenty of choice that satisfies the most intolerant people or just the healthy ones with a sweet tooth.

On Sundays, they have brunch! We ordered the Australian breakfast with a fried piece of corn topped with guacamole, two poached eggs and two pieces of toast; a berrylicious smoothie with banana, berries, yogurt, milk and oats (that alone could be a very filling liquid breakfast); a warm chia pudding with chia seeds and laminated almonds, and homemade granola with honey, grated apple and cinnamon. And, of course, two cappuccinos.

The menu isn't fixed, you can choose single items and compose your own brunch menu.

My Xmas Wishlist – and some thoughts on World Peace

1. Casaco: Mango / 2. Botas: Zara / 3. Mala: Michael Kors / 4. Auscultadores: Beats / 5. Óculos: Ray Ban / 6. Paleta de sombras: Zoeva / 7. Perfume: Caudalie / 8. Relógio: Daniel Wellington / 9. Lente 50mm: Nikon

Feliz Natal!

[EN]: That time of the year where every blogger posts their most wanted presents in the hope of someone close to them seeing it and getting it right once and for all has come – and I'm no exception. It can get quite shallow though, but in this first world, we want things – that's our reality. And with all the advertising (or product placements) and constant new products coming up, it's hard to resist the new trends and hard not to create false desires on things we want, but don't need.

Of course, wishing for world peace is way more acceptable in this society – that pretends not to be consumerist –, but that's a thing we can't obtain right away. Plus, not being in charge of a powerful organization nor having a voice, makes it quite impossible for preventing wars and deaths.

In my family, we never had a tree full of presents. Us five, we would get two or three things  each that we really needed – like somes shoes or a jacket – and a small "souvenir" – like a book, or socks. So of course, I'd love to get all the things I wish for, but then my wishes would be granted too fast. I rather wait till next year, and make this same list – without some item I had received this Christmas – and keep on wishing and keep the festive spirit alive. Be grateful for what I get, and not greedy to haven't gotten it all.
Seems to be similar to peace on earth... not quite. Maybe peace with ourselves and the ones around us.

Merry Christmas!

Instagram Snap Shots of Parree

By now, you must've watched my Paris vlog (if not, scroll down and click on the play button). In between internships and a cold, I managed to squeeze in a weekend away to see my two best friends that are currently studying in Paris. It was the fastest plane ticket I bought, cuz, duh, I couldn't refuse to visit them in my favorite city.

The weekend went by really fast, though I tried to capture every moment. Juggling between taking photos with my phone for Instagram, then with my camera for the blog, then filming with my phone for the vlog and adding some stories to Instagram, I could feel the struggle of vloggers/bloggers who have to do it all and still manage to enjoy themselves.

Since it isn't my first time in Paris, and I've covered it already on the blog pretty extensively (here), and I don't have a lot of new things to add from this trip that haven't been said on the video, I'll leave you with my Instagram photos as an inspiration.

Do tell me: in my next trip, what do you prefer to see, a vlog like the one I made, a blog post like this, or both? Comment down below so I can count the votes. :)
