Pour some sugar on me

Ontem fui convidada pela Raquel Teixeira, blogger do Addicted To, para ir experimentar uma nova marca cá em Portugal, a Matrix. Tudo o que tenha a ver com cabelos eu adoro, por isso disse logo que sim. No Salão do Rui Canento, HAIR, no Chiado foi onde fomos recebidas. O sítio é impecável e com um ar muito requintado. O próprio Rui recebeu-nos com um grande sorriso e apresentou-nos esta nova linha de produtos orgânicos: Sugar Shine. A particularidade deste conjunto de produtos capilares é que havia um esfoliante. 

[EN]: Yesterday I was invited by Raquel Teixeira, blogger from Addicted To, so we could try a new brand that's coming to Portugal: Matrix. Everything that involves hair, I love, so I said 'yes' right away to the invitation. It was at Rui Canento Saloon, HAIR, in Chiado, where we were welcomed. The place is spotless and so chic. It was Rui himself that greeted us with a big smile and introduced us to this new bio line: Sugar Shine. The particularity of this set of products is that there were an exfoliant.

Esfoliantes conheço bem. Utilizo um de cara, outro para o corpo, um para os pés e ainda para os lábios. Mas o que esta marca nos apresentava era um esfoliante para o couro cabeludo! E na verdade, tem razão de existir. A cabeleireira explicou-nos que muitas vezes as pessoas não sabem lavar bem a cabeça e enxaguar completamente o champô, deixando-o secar no couro cabeludo e fazendo parecer caspa. Com este produto que remove as impurezas com pequenos cristais de açúcar, possibilita o brilho do cabelo a partir da raiz. 

The products

Exfoliants, those I know well. I've got one for my face, another for the body, one for my feet and even one for my lips. But what this brand was presenting us with was an exfoliant for the scalp! And, in fact, it has a right of existence! The hairdresser explained us that a lot of times, people don't knwo how to wash their hair properly, leaving the shampoo to dry on their scalp making it look like dandruff. With this product, it removes the impurities with small sugar crystals, allowing the hair to shine from  the roots.

Após a aplicação do esfoliante, passa-se para o natural passo seguinte: o champô purificante, sem silicone. Depois, o amaciador nutritivo. E, por fim, o Illuminating Mist, para o brilho duradouro. Nenhum dos produtos tem parabenos, sulfatos nem silicones, o que a cabeça agradece (produtos com estes químicos podem causar cancro!). O cheirinho é sempre muito doce (o que às vezes não acontece quando se tratam de produtos mais bio).

After rubbing in the exfoliant, then we move on the the next step: the purifying shampoo, with no silicone. Then, the nourishing conditioner. And, lastly, the Illuminating Mist, for a lasting shine. None of the products have parabens, sulfates nor silicone, which leaves the head thankful (products with these chemicals might cause cancer!). The smell is always very sweet (which not always happens with these organic products).

TOPO

Para os lisboetas, este terraço, o TOPO, não é novidade. Já ando a ouvir falar deste 6º andar há pelo menos um ano e tal, mas foi recentemente que este rooftop começou a ganhar a sua devida popularidade. 

No topo de um centro comercial decadente em plena praça do Martim Moniz, existe uma das melhores vistas sobre uma das sete (ou oito?) colinas da nossa capital. É daqui que se avista, de longe, o nosso majestoso Castelo de São Jorge, o Miradouro da Senhora do Monte na Graça e, ainda, a praça multicultural aos nossos pés. 
É incrível o quão gigante tudo parece à nossa volta, com casinhas coloridas colocadas estrategicamente para encher os nossos olhos. E o mais profundo, é saber que faço parte desta cidade cheia de história e maravilhas.

[EN]: For locals of Lisbon, this terrace, TOPO, is no news. For at least one year or so that I've been hearing about this 6th floor, but it was recently that this rooftop gained its earned popularity.

On top of a decadent 'shopping mall' right at Martim Moniz's square, there is the greatest view over one of the seven (or eight) hills of Portugal's capital. It is from there where one can spot our majestic Castle, get a glimpse of Miradouro da Senhora do Monte and, of course, admire the multicultural square below. 

It's overwhelming how big it looks around us, with colorful little houses strategically placed to fill our view. And knowing that this is my city, makes me so joyful to be part of its history and wonder.

My love is green

São Bento. O bairro lisboeta em alta. Uma combinação da existência de pequenos negócios da baixa Chiado com as colinas do Bairro Alto, e ainda com o tão-famoso elétrico 28. Perto da Assembleia e de várias universidades reconhecíveis, encontrei uma pequena quantidade de lojas e restaurantes novos e incríveis, como o L'Anisette, um bar de vinhos e restaurante de tapas francesas, o Tapioca Oca, um espaço saudável que oferece tapiocas brazileiras (doces ou salgadas), a Cachorraria Nacional, um local de tapas de hot dogs, +351, uma loja portuguesa com items exclusivos, e, ainda, o YAO pressed juicery.

É neste bairro onde estes pequenos negócios prosperam através da diferenciação e dedicação. E com o facto de Portugal estar a sair da crise, e notar-se um maior poder de compra e aposta em produtos novos, estas áreas, como o São Bento, enchem-se de vida e mostram o espírito lutador dos nossos imigrantes e locais.

[EN]: São Bento. The up-and-coming neighborhood in Lisbon. A mix of the existence of new businesses in downtown Chiado with the hills of Bairro Alto, and the ever so-famous 28 tram. Near the Assembly and some recognizable universities, I have found a small amount of new and outstanding restaurants and shops, such as L'Anisette, a wine bar and french tapas restaurant, Tapioca Oca, a Brazilian healthy place featuring sweet and savory tapiocas, Cachorraria Nacional, a hot-dog tapas venue, +351, a Portuguese store with exclusive items, and, YAO pressed juicery.

It's in this neighborhood where small businesses owners are thriving through differentiation and dedication. And with Portugal coming out of recession, and people buying more products and betting on new things, these areas, like o São Bento, become full of life and show the strong spirit of our immigrants and locals.

Sendo uma amante de sumos verdes, é óbvio que sempre que vir algum novo sítio de sumos, sabe-se que é lá que vou provar. 

Nesse dia, foi a vez do YAO. É uma pequena loja na Calçada do Combro, onde se prensam frutas e vegetais todos os dias. É tudo natural, fresco, orgânico e cheio de amor. 

Um que adiciono, sem pensar das vezes, à minha lista de favoritos.

As a green juice lover, you just know I'll be surfacing every juicery in my area. This time, it was YAO's turn. It's a little shop in Calçada do Combro, where everyday it is pressed various recipes of juices. All natural, all fresh, all organic, all love. 

One to add to my favorite's list, without thinking twice.

Village Maravilha

Desde o dia em que li algures no Facebook sobre a abertura do novo sítio cool em Lisboa feito de contentores e um autocarro antigo, que o tenho querido visitar ansiosamente. Avançando DOIS anos (sim, nem acredito que me levou tanto tempo a lá ir), finalmente marquei no meu iCalendar e lá fui à Village Underground.

Dentro do museu da Carris, podemos encontrar uma outra realidade: um espaço criativo e internacional com 14 contentores transformados em ateliers de trabalho e em salas de reunião para alugar, um autocarro desactivado convertido numa cafetaria e uma área multicutural para se estar e apreciar a arte urbana. É uma localização bastante alternativa onde se pode relaxar num baloiço, ou beber um sumo de ananás de €3 ou até mesmo trabalhar dentro de um contentor com wifi.

É o lado hipster de Lisboa (em conjunto com a LX Factory ao seu lado), onde se pode fugir ao mundo real por uns momentos.

[EN]: Ever since I read somewhere on Facebook that the new hottest place in town was made out of shipping containers and an old bus, that I've been eagerly wanting to visit it. Fast-forward TWO years (yeah, I cannot believe it took that long), I finally set the date on my iCalendar and there I went to Village Underground.

Inside the Carris museum (public passenger transportation company in Lisbon), we find another reality: a creative and international space with 14 shipping containers transformed into workshops and meeting rooms to rent, with an old bus turned into a coffee shop and a multicultural area to hang out and appreciate the art work. It's quite the alternative location where you can relax on a swing, or drink a €3 pineapple juice or to work inside a wireless container.

It's the hipster side of Lisbon (alongside with LX Factory near it), where you can escape from the real world and wind down for a few moments.

Summertime Sadness (a newly-graduate letter to the season)

Oh Summer! I've been waiting for you for a whole year, so I could relax and abstain myself from school work, and now you left me with fading tan lines and a whole load of new responsibilities.

You were great to me for a good month and a half, letting me enjoy your warm weather and cool ocean water. You made me have no care in the world and dance till the sun rose. You made so tired of only laying down in your burning and grainy sand, and thus making me too lazy to go for a run and burn off all the calories of the ice-creams you made me indulge in.

Now that you left me with your brother Fall, you made me realize that I've got to start living. Well, working is the word Fall is implying on me. Now that I've graduated, I have no idea what I'll do in September. No one will tell me which class I have to run off to, or what book I need to read. You left it all for me to figure it out. And I don't want to waste this opportunity to build my professional experience, or even waste my life complaining, but oh, how I wish I had more time to think under the palm tree, eating a piece of watermelon and splashing water with my feet on the pool. How am I supposed to get into this crazy world when the only thing I can do are Word essays? I don't feel qualified enough to start earning money  and working a 9-5 job... Why didn't you warn me, before I let loose, that I needed to improve my CV, make it appealing, email everyone that I think I should email?Why didn't you tell me they wouldn't reply?? Am I supposed to look further? Am I supposed to leave all the people I love and my safe and pretty room to go after something out of my reach? Is that time happening now? I thought I'd had more time for that to happen...

(I still want to see more of the world, discover new ways of living, meet new people, eat different food, swim in different oceans and, above all, discover who I really am! I don't want to get stuck in a rut right away... Can't I be free for awhile first? Can't I enjoy my youthfulness?)

Oh how I wish I was floating in your refreshing and salty sea, thinking of nothing at all and listening to the emptiness of the bottom of the sea. Tell me, Fall, what is expected for me?

Evening Gleam

Antes de ir para o Algarve, não resisti em tirar algumas fotografias nesta hora de ouro ao pé das Docas. Escolhi um look casual com uma maquilhagem mais audaz e unhas amarelas. Eu e a minha amiga quisémos ir experimentar este novo sítio com gelados de pauzinho, o UAU, que tem invadido o meu feed e tem-me feito, inconscientemente, sedenta por estes gelados. As duas pedimos o de melância, e antes de derreter nas nossas mãos, consguimos prová-lo. Na verdade, o outro sítio a que fui provar estes gelados em pauzinho no Bairro Alto (aqui) tinha sabores mais naturais. Apesar de estar a julgar com apenas uma prova, consigo distinguir o meu preferido (a Paletaria!). De qualquer maneira, não vos quero afugentar deste sítio pois tem uma vista incrível das docas sobre o rio e por baixo da ponte. É mesmo O sítio!

Before hitting up the Algarve, I couldn't resist taking pictures in this golden hour near the dock. I went for a casual look with a bold eye makeup and yellow nails. My friend and I wanted to try this new popsicles place, UAU, which has been invading my feed and making me, unconsciously, thirsty for these ice-creams. We both got the watermelon popsicle, and before it melted on our hands, we got to taste it. Tbh, the other popsicle place I went to in Bairro Alto (here) had more natural flavors than this one. Although I'm only judging one ice-cream I tasted, I can tell the difference between the two I ate in the two different places. Nonetheless, you should check it out and enjoy the amazing view of the dock over the river and under the bridge. It's quite THE spot!
