I know. It's the 10th of January and I'm now writing a New Year's post. Bad blogger.
Nonetheless, I felt obliged to write you something. It's a new year, let's kick it off with some thoughts.
In between, you can check this photo shoot Mariana and I did with Enzo. The location was pretty on point, industrial looking with a touch of vintage luxury. It's located in Cais do Sodré, in Lisbon, and it's called Vestigius.
Secretly, I've been waiting for 2018 for quite a few months. Although, last year I did a lot of things — lived in Denmark for three months with my Danish family, traveled to London on my birthday, traveled to Amsterdam with my sister, went to many blogger events where I met pretty much everyone I follow on Instagram, at least the ones in Portugal, did some crazy photoshoots, went to Paris with my Polish friend and spent the New Year's Eve in Oporto with my boyfriend — it wasn't all the time a great time.
2017 was a rollercoaster for me. Emotional rollercoaster. A lot happened in my personal life which I don't wish to dwell on it, and for that I needed a reason to start fresh, a new year, a new chance at being truly happy.
But this idea that a new year will change us is quite ridiculous. It's like saying 'oh I'll start dieting on next Monday, because it's a new week and it's the right time to do it'. And then, you just keep postponing your diet from one Monday to another.
What I believe the New Year can bring is gradual change. It's not becoming a totally different person than you were a few days ago, but improving yourself. Improving your way to see the world, to see yourself and to see others.
I like to make a little list of promises each year. Mostly are concerning travel and places I want to visit. Besides the shallow promises, I like to set my mind into a clear state and find what I truly need to become a better me.
Not a new me, a better me.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Happy New Year!
Cheers!
Here's to letting go of people who hurt me, letting go of thoughts that stress me out, breathing in and breathe out and stop overthinking about meaningless things.
To saying yes regularly to things that can lead to opportunities, all kind of them. Being a quick coffee with an old friend or a 'stranger' with big ideas.
Here's to starting to work on myself. And taking better care of my health.
To working on a project which will truly fulfil me, both personally and professionally.
Here's to 2018 being the best year yet.
