Knit Edit

The winter is coming! Indeed it is. Here in Lisbon, the temperatures fell below 15ºC – which is cold for us Lisbon people, since our weather is usually warm and humid. Though it's not time for fur coats yet, I wanted to showcase how to be warm and, at the same time, stylish. The look is really basic, but tidy. I was wearing a black knit sweater over a pleated gold skirt – the hat is optional, though it provides a more wintery feel to it. What do you think?

The World Is Your Oyster

[EN]: The stage of transitioning from a little girl to a grown woman has been a true revelation. When I finished my studies and started working, I felt a new entrance to a world  with unlimited possibilities – which felt quite scary at first. The life I had envisioned could begin at any moment, and the dreams for a grown Inês could now come true.

I feel like I've been gaining more control over my actions and decisions, and, consequently, gaining more confidence. The 10-year-old girl who was mocked for her thick hair and non branded clothing, is now free of prejudices and embraces her differences. She’s a grown woman now who wants to discover the world and isn’t afraid of the challenges. She won’t care about mean and petty comments, she focuses on the good things and on her life and all the plans she has instored. It’s an exciting phase!

What this blog has given me, from this one year and half, was the development of this self-confidence. In a world (alright, this platform) where I’m in charge and it is me who creates and who plays the leading role, it’s difficult not to grow as a person. One has to be creative and improve oneself everyday. There can’t be no shame when it comes to photographing in a public space, because you know it’s the end result that will matter, or when it is time to share your creativity among all your social networks and risk exposing some of your intimacy. Blogging is a personal challenge, everyday we want to surpass our goals – either being in terms of reach, or content, or quality (this last one being the most important one). And that competition with myself is a healthy one.

The ambition I have conquered at this stage and with my blog has created in me a yearn for living on the highest mode, to grab every opportunity that comes my way and to appreciate the reality I have.

Modern Day Ballerina

[EN]: As a former kid ballerina, I learned how to be poised and to stand straight at all times. Thus, this outfit. As soon as I’ve laid my eyes on these ballet flats from Zara (yes, I know Portuguese brand Josefinas have the same model and are way more comfortable), I had to combine them with a fluffy tulle skirt and the coolest tee. Feeling feminine and light, there I hopped from one photo spot to another. And who captured my gracefulness was this amazing new photograph Márcia (make sure to check her work out in here).

It was good to remember the times when us, little girls between five and ten years old, would dress up quickly with out little soft pink leotards and satin skirts, by a garden, in the attic of our school. It was twice a week that we'd have ballet, after Miss Teresa's classes. The ballet classes were never strict, in fact I remember having a lot of fun there, like one time, the four-year-old version of me was always copying the hard steps from the older girls, and years later, being in a group of older girls, it was us that were leading the younger ones in the final presentation – I felt so important being at the front row of that show (two weeks later, I was still playing the same music on my CD player).

It's funny to know how those classes that I attended so innocently, had a huge effect on the way I walk now and how I behave in society. The past really shapes us.
